Olowalu Plantation House on Hawaii's lush island of Maui is a popular and sought-after wedding venue known for its stunning natural beauty and historical charm. For couples who want to stray from a typical cookie-cutter resort-type destination wedding, this place is one to consider!
Olowalu Plantation House is located on the western coast of Maui, overlooking the ocean and surrounded by mountains, lush tropical gardens, and swaying palm trees. The picturesque backdrop provides an idyllic setting for a romantic and intimate wedding. There is a nearby farmer's market, campgrounds, as well as local shops and cuisine all within a 5-15 minute drive. Hawaii is known for its delicious and diverse cuisine, and many couples opt for locally-inspired menus that showcase the island's flavors and ingredients. This culinary experience can be a highlight for guests attending the wedding. Some of my favorite places outside of the venue was the famous Star Noodle, the drinks and kona coffee pandan ice cream dessert at Duckine, a delicious upscale dinner at Lahaina Grill, and Leoda's Kitchen and Pie Shop, (not even a pie gal, but get the banana creme!)
The venue itself is a historic property, adding a touch of old-world charm and authenticity to the wedding experience. Due to its west-facing location, the venue is well-known for its breathtaking sunsets. Side note, I had the incredible experience to snorkel in the open ocean off the coast of Olowalu and its reefs are some of the oldest and most vibrant and prolific of Maui. I was also able to sign up to volunteer with Kipuka Olowalu which seeks to preserve the natural history of Hawaii. In this industry, especially in destinations like Hawaii, the line between respecting a location and taking advantage of it is very thin. If you have the opportunity and will to donate your time to serve with Kipuka, I would highly recommend it! You will learn about the cultural significance of the land as well as get to help preserve it through environmental projects. You may even get a discount on your stay at Camp Olowalu and have the most unique accommodation experience.
Many couples appreciate the convenience of working with experienced wedding coordinators and vendors who are familiar with the venue. I had the pleasure of working with Lindsey and she did a fantastic job with hair & makeup as well as having great feedback for iconic places to shoot near the venue. The Olowalu Plantation House is well-suited for intimate weddings with a relatively smaller guest count. It provides a serene and personal atmosphere for the couple and their closest family and friends. Overall, getting married at the Olowalu Plantation House in Maui can be a magical and unforgettable experience. The combination of natural beauty, historical ambiance, and Hawaiian culture creates a unique backdrop for celebrating love and starting a new chapter in life.
